BicyclING ambassadors PROGRAM

About Us
Bicycling Ambassadors encourage bicyclists to ride more often and more safely, and educate motorists on the rules of the road. Ambassadors teach bike safety, sharing the road, greenway etiquette and how to bike to work and school. The face-to-face interaction provided by Ambassadors allows for conversations targeted the specific interests, questions and needs of an individual. This interaction occurs at booths at community events/festivals and at bicycle-specific events.

The Ambassador program is managed by the Knoxville Regional Bicycle Program and funded through Smart Trips, Mast General Store and Smoky Mountain Wheelmen..

Pledge
Whatever your reason for biking and whatever kind of bike you ride, we all share two wheels. We also share the road, which means we should obey traffic laws, be predictable and communicate our intentions. Sharing the road is a two-way street—we must show respect for the law and other road users in order to get respect from motorists. Sharing the greenways also requires courtesy among different users.

Make the I Bike KNX safe biking pledge online and we’ll send you an "I Bike KNX" bike and helmet sticker! You can also make the pledge in person at one of our Bicycling Ambassadors booths or at Three Rivers Market or Mast General Store.

I pledge to:

  • Follow the rules of the road, including stopping at red lights
  • Wear a helmet
  • Use front & rear lights in the dark
  • Ride with traffic, even on one-way streets
  • Yield to pedestrians
  • On greenways and sidewalks, slow down when passing and say “Passing!”
  • Not go back & forth between sidewalks and streets just to avoid red lights or traffic
  • Not wear headphones
  • Do my part to make Knoxville a safer place to bike, and encourage others to bike too!

This offer is open to residents of the TPO planning area surrounding Knoxville, Tennessee. See map >>
