May is National Bike Month
May is National Bike Month, and we like to celebrate it big here in East Tennessee! We have something for everyone on our calendar of events: from learning how to change a flat, joining in on a beginner bike ride, making a smoothie with a pedal-powered blender, to biking to work with some new friends.
Smart Trips Commuter Challenge
Hey, bicyclists, join Smart Trips for our 2011 Commuter Challenge this May, June and July.
Smart Trips promotes alternatives to driving alone and offers rewards and prizes to those who choose greener methods of commuting—such as bicycling. This year’s Challenge will offer lots of great prizes including Amazon Kindles, iPod Nano MP3 players, a Knoxville Staycation and a grand prize travel package courtesy of AAA Travel of East Tennessee.
When you log your bike commutes during May, you’ll also have a chance to win one of four $100 gift cards!
All you have to do is bike to work at least four times and you’ll be entered into the drawing.
I Bike KNX Festival
The first annual I Bike KNX Festival was a lot of fun. The crowd enjoyed watching the track stand competition and kids (and adults) loved decorating their helmets and bicycles. It was a great chance to socialize with other bicyclists, check out the offerings from local bike shops, and see what is going on with the Bicycle Program. See photos >>
Bike to Work Day 2011
We had a record turnout for the 11th annual Bike to Work Day! More than 67 people stopped by Market Square on the way to work to enjoy free biscuits and coffee. There was also a record number of convoys traveling to the event from all directions. The competition for the Best Dressed Commuter awards was tough! More information and photos >>
