Knoxville Regional Bicycle Program
Neighborhood Bike Ride

FAQs

Is there a charge for the ride or food?
No, the ride is free, along with water at the rest stop and Cruze Farm mini cones and lemonade after the ride.

Is there a minimum age for the ride?
It really depends on your child’s abilities on a bike. Some 5-year-olds can ride the 10 miles easily, and some 8-year-olds are not able to make it. If you start out and realize in the first mile that you can’t make it, it would be easy enough to return to the start location.

I don’t ride fast—is this for me?
This is definitely not a race. The average speed is less than 8 mph (and I know that doesn’t mean a lot to you if you’re asking this question). We will not leave anyone behind, but we also do need to satisfy a variety of bicyclists. If you do not think you can go at least 8 mph average, this may not be the right event for you.

Do I sign up ahead of time?
No, you sign in when you arrive at the start location. Please be sure to arrive early enough to unload your bike(s) if you are driving, and to get to the sign in booth, and get your helmets on, etc. We will leave promptly at 2 p.m. so you should try to get there by 1:45 p.m., please! There will be pre-ride festivities including bike safety checks and helmet/bike decorating.

Do I have to wear a helmet? It’s not the law.
It may not be the law if you are over 16, but it’s a really smart thing to do, and we require it for our rides.
