Street Skills for Bicyclists Class: Bicycling Essentials
Want to learn how to ride your bike safely and confidently in traffic? Just knowing how to ride a bike is not the same as knowing how to operate a bike safely and legally. The class covers helmet and bike fitting, fixing flat tires, using your gears, emergency maneuvers, and fitting into traffic smoothly and confidently. This class combines hands-on activities and classroom learning, with on-bike exercises and a practice ride in traffic. This five-hour class is for adults and young adults. The $30 fee includes the League Guide to Safe and Enjoyable Cycling. You’ll need your bike and a helmet for the class. You must be 16 or older to register.

Road I
This two-day class gives cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. It covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills and crash avoidance techniques and includes a student manual. Recommended for adults and children above age fourteen, this fast-paced, nine-hour course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling. The $50 fee includes the League Guide to Safe and Enjoyable Cycling, created by the League of American Bicyclists.

Kids I
Designed for parents, this class explains how to teach a child to ride a bike and perform a bicycle safety check. Other topics include helmet fitting and bike sizing. The 'Kids Eye View' video shows parents how kids see the street environment differently from adults. There is an option to have kids attend this class with their parents. The length depends on whether the class is parents-only or with kids, and ranges between an hour and three hours.

Bike Commuting 101
For adult cyclists who wish to explore the possibility of commuting to work or school by bike. This hour-long presentation covers topics including route selection, bicycle choice, dealing with cargo and clothing, bike parking, lighting, reflection, and foul weather riding. Participants receive the Knoxville Bicycle Commute Guide. A perfect fit for Lunch and Learn programs at your worksite!
