THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS
A huge thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who put so much time and energy into
Smart Trips Week. Thanks to all the local bike shops for helping with these events.

SMART TRIPS WEEK A SUCCESS!

Smart Trips Week (April 29 - May 6) was a great success! More than 300 people registered for the week-long Commuter Challenge. We had about 40 people participate in the 5 "bike pools" for Bike to Work Day, despite threatening weather on Friday. The first annual Pedal Vs Metal Race was great fun, and the bicyclists beat the motorists by at least 10 minutes. Russell and Beth from WBIR's Live at Five were in an SUV, so we had nice media coverage.

As gas prices continue to stay up, check out the Smart Trips website for ideas on how you can save money on your commute year-round!

The Smart Trips Program is funded by the US Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Knox County and the City of Knoxville.

The TPO also manages the Smart Trips Program, which works with employers to promote alternatives to driving alone. Together we can reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and save money!
