Fun, Education are the Focus of Smart Trips Month

The winners of the Smart Trips Month Individual Awards are: Longest Bike Commute: Lamar Johnson and Jeff Shmerler tied with 46 miles roundtrip; Most Diverse Commute: Christal Yost using four modes of transport; Longest Walk (Run) Commute: John Longmire at more than seven miles; and Most Miles Biked in a Week: Jeremy Chandler biking 100 miles weekly and more than 5,000 miles annually.

The winners of the Commuter Bike Essay Contest are Erin Merten and Daniel Dooley. Daniel even pledged to ride 1300 miles before the end of the Smart Trips Commuter Challenge.

Bike to Work Day
More than 40 people celebrated Bike to Work Day downtown, despite the rain. The winners of the Best Dressed Commuters contest were Emily Ellis, Jim Hagerman and Jennifer Webster. Runners up were Tracy Jackson and Linden Craig. Everyone enjoyed biscuits and coffee and got a Be Green, Save Green discount card.
Smart Trips walk
Metro Pulse columnist Jack Neely lead a very informative walking tour that explored the paths between downtown Knoxville and UT. City of Knoxville officials also discussed the latest plans for Cumberland Avenue.
Fit in a Fit
